Computer Networking Fundamentals

Network:  A network is a group of some computer or other devices interconnected with each other to share data and other resources. All the connected systems are known as"Node". A medium is required to connect all devices into a network. The medium may be wired or wireless.

Wired Network
In wired network computer or other devices are interconnected by a wired medium such as a LAN cable or a data cable.

Wireless Network
In a wireless network computer or other devices are interconnected by a wireless medium such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
Wireless Network
There are many types of networks in computer networking technology.

following diagram can help to explain how network is different to other network:

Different types of networks

There are different types of network available, we can classify them to different category.

PAN (Personal Area Network)
Personal area network connect our computer & other personal devices such as mobile, laptop, other media devices  in a very small area such as a home for personal use.

LAN (Local Area  Network)
A local area network connect computer & other devices in a small geographical area such as office, school etc. LANs are also owned, controlled, and managed by a single person or organization.
MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)
A network connecting a physical area larger than a LAN but smaller than a WAN, such as a city or different branch offices. A MAN is typically owned and operated by a single entity such as a government body or large corporation.
WAN (Wide Area Network)
A WAN is a collection of LANs & MANs. A WAN connect a large physical distance. The Internet is the largest WAN, spanning the Earth. Most WANs (like the Internet) are not owned by any one organization.
SAN (Storage Area Network)
A Storage Area Network is a type of LAN designed to handle large data transfers and bulk storage of digital information. A SAN typically supports data storage, retrieval and replication on business networks.

some other networks are VPN (Virtual Private Network) and CAN (Campus Area Network)
